Consumer Information for Sustainable Consumption and Production

Retail4Impact

Taking action to provide credible green claims and combat greenwashing: THE RETAIL4IMPACT INITIATIVE

The Retail4Impact Initiative ('Retail4Impact’) is led by UN Environment Programme’s One Planet Network Consumer Information Programme. It aims at uniting the retail sector in providing effective, trustworthy claims to consumers at the point of sale, on product-related sustainability information.

You are:

  • a retailer with private label brands
  • a brand owner

Retail4Impact is made for you, empowering your company to take concerted action, leading by example in the shift towards harmonized, reliable, relevant, clear, transparent and accessible product sustainability information!

How Retail4Impact is Transforming Consumer Information

Guiding the Retail4Impact initiative are UNEP's Guidelines on Product Sustainability Information. These guidelines are supporting national, regional and global companies in their efforts to communicate credible green claims, alongside informing a growing Community of Practice on the topic.

Technical support on strengthening green claims has been provided to companies for one year – from March to October 2025 – through a series of virtual capacity building workshops in key emerging markets (e.g. China, Brazil, the Russian Federation) and regional groups:

  • Latin America and the Caribbean

  • Africa

  • Asia and the Pacific

  • Europe
