YoYo Surf Hostel

YoYo Surf Hostel operates in Sri Lanka. Actions taken by the hostel to reduce plastic usage include providing refilling stations and reusable cups for guests to cut down on plastic bottle consumption.

In the framework of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative, YoYo Surf Hostel commits to: 

  • Eliminating problematic and/or unnecessary plastic packaging or items and containers for cleaning products from rooms, kitchens and food & drink services by 2023. 

  • Introducing reuse models or reusable alternatives in kitchens and food & drink services by 2023. 

  • Engaging the value chain to provide data on recyclability and compostability of plastic packaging to facilitate the move towards 100% of plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025 by engaging suppliers, regulators, and business associations, establishing procurement criteria, and setting a 2025 target. 

  • Taking action to increase recycled content across all plastic packaging and items used by 2025 by engaging suppliers, regulators, and business associations, establishing procurement criteria, and setting a 2025 target. 

  • Collaborating and investing in increasing recycling and composting rates by providing training to staff on waste sorting, engaging waste service providers for data on recycling rates, engaging with business and other key stakeholders to improve performance of waste service providers, and investing resources to promote innovation to increase recycling rates. 

  • Reporting publicly and annually on progress made towards these targets via own reporting platforms.
