At Nayara, sustainable tourism is our driving motivation. We believe in building in harmony with nature, leaving space for wildlife and wilderness, while contributing to the growth of our local community. We are proud of our numerous social and environmental initiatives. We are environmentally friendly and socially responsible without compromising on design or culture.

One of our major commitments has to be with our community. As part of our mutual objectives regarding Good Health and well-being, decent work and economic growth and sustainable cities and communities we believe we are in the same page with you.

We think local: we want our community to thrive. The majority of our team comes from the neighboring town of La Fortuna de San Carlos. We offer them free transportation, sustainable tourism education, and health services. Some of our additional local initiatives include free early education for our employees’ children, volunteer time, and financial support to Hogarcito de Ninos, a local orphanage, and support for local artists.

GOAL FOR 2030: Make Nayara Costa Rica a regional benchmark in terms of quality of employment. Coordinate sustainability actions with our value chain; providers and community.

 

Also regarding climate change we are working on the following:

At Nayara we calculate and offset our Greenhouse Gas emissions using recognized international methodologies and standards. Thus, in 2021, using the GHG Protocol developed by the World Resources Institute (WRI) in conjunction with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), we calculated the emissions of our operation taking into account the following scopes:

 

Scope 1: Direct consumption of fossil fuels and refrigerant gases for our operation;

Scope 2: electricity consumption from the local network;

Scope 3: Generation of urban solid waste, corporate trips and transportation of our collaborators.

 

GOAL FOR 2030: Achieve a NET ZERO operation for 100% of our operation through the use of renewable energies and CO2 capture actions.
