In the framework of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative, Manzanillo Caribbean Resort commits to: 

  • Eliminating problematic and/or unnecessary plastic from service areas and kitchens by 2025. 

  • Introducing reuse models or reusable alternatives in service areas by 2025. 

  • Engaging the value chain to provide data on recyclability and compostability of plastic packaging to facilitate the move towards 100% of plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025 by engaging suppliers, establishing procurement criteria, and setting a 2025 target. 

  • Taking action to increase recycled content across all plastic packaging and items used by engaging suppliers and business associations, establishing procurement criteria, and setting a 2025 target. 

  • Collaborating and investing in increasing recycling and composting rates by providing training and means for staff to improve waste sorting, engaging with waste service providers, and engaging with business and other key stakeholders to improve performance of waste service providers. 

  • Reporting publicly and annually on progress made towards these targets via own platforms.
