Looming Hostel

Looming Hostel is an eco-friendly accommodation provider based in Estonia.

Looming Hostel does not give out any single use plastic products like plastic tableware, bottles, toiletries etc, they buy eco-labelled cleaning products in 25l containers that get upcycled into flower pots when empty, and ask guests to minimise the use of plastics (and packaging). All plastics get sorted into the packaging container.

Commitments:

In the framework of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative, Looming Hostel commits to:
  • Eliminating problematic and/or unnecessary plastic packaging or items from food & drink services (packaging), kitchens (items) and cleaning services (containers for cleaning products) by 2025
  • Introducing reuse models or reusable alternatives in food & drink services and cleaning services by 2025
  • Engaging the value chain to provide data on recyclability and compostability of plastic packaging to facilitate the move towards 100% of plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025 by setting a 2025 target on % of plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable, or compostable
  • Taking action to increase the amount of recycled content across all plastic packaging and items used by 2025, by setting a target on % of recycled content required in packaging and items by 2025
  • Collaborating and investing in increasing recycling and composting rates through: provision of training and means for staff to sort solid waste, engaging waste service providers, and investing resources in innovation that results in increased recycling rates
  • Reporting publicly and annually on progress made towards these targets via own reporting mechanisms
