Jumeirah is a luxury hotel group based in Dubai and operating across the Middle East, Europe and Asia. Ongoing plastic-related initiatives include: implementing glass water bottling plants onsite to replace single-use plastic bottles, transitioning single-use plastic dry amenities to reusable, wood-based alternatives, switching to refillable wet amenities systems, and removing single-use, non-biodegradable plastics in areas, including housekeeping, food & beverages, and other operational areas, with the ambition to achieve 100% single-use plastic free operations.

In the framework of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative, Jumeirah commits to: 

  • Eliminating problematic and/or unnecessary plastic from rooms, bathrooms, and food & drink services by 2025.
  • Introducing reuse models or reusable alternatives in food & drink services, cleaning services, service areas, and bathrooms by 2025.
  • Engaging the value chain to provide data on recyclability and compostability of plastic packaging to facilitate the move towards 100% of plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025 by engaging suppliers, regulators, and business associations, establishing procurement criteria, and setting a 2025 target.
  • Taking action to increase recycled content across all plastic packaging and items used by 2025 by engaging suppliers, regulators, and business associations, establishing procurement criteria, and setting a 2025 target.
  • Collaborating and investing in increasing recycling and composting rates by providing training and means for staff to improve waste sorting, engaging with waste service providers, engaging with business and other key stakeholders to improve performance of waste service providers, and investing resources to improve recycling rates.
  • Reporting publicly and annually on progress made towards these targets via the GTPI reporting platform.
