Due to the location in immediate closeness to the nearest national park, Nuuksio, of the Finnish capital Helsinki, we need to have sustainability in our dna. When the lodge was renovated everything was planned according to most sustainable means of building and operations in mind.
Currently we feature 20 Lodge room sand 5 Glamping tents.
Some examples include running the property on 100% wind power, upcycled furniture, partnering with “Sydänturva” DAE, minimizing waste, education of guest in nature behaviour.
As our Green Key certificate and participation in Sustainable Travel Finland program by Visit Finland project requires a dedicated support of a sustainability project we have dedicated our staff to restore swamps in the national park. this includes building dams by own hand in the forest according to the guidelines of the Finnish Forest administration. This project is maybe one of the most local, visible and practical creation by own hands in the area. We are also the first signatory of Hotel for Trees project in the country.
To continue our chosen path within sustainability next steps will be designing educational mobile app modules for our foreign guests who are visiting all the way from the big Asian metropol’s and enjoying our pure nature close to the capital and also main airport as you don’t need to catch a flight to reach us.
Employing locals and trainees from tourism and hospitality sector schools and universities have been a special feature which we are famous for in the area. We also keep receiving 5***** feedback in different channels, especially for staff, breakfast and sustainability.
The board is committed to continue the chosen sustainability focus and next big effort will be installing solar panels on the roof of the property. Bearing in mind that we are a small scale operation it requires some additional funding to be able to carry this out and materialize. At the food supply we are redesigning our snack menu to include only game as meat from a farm/producer in the close area of Nuuksio. Breakfast is served by order only and thus minimizes waste.
The big differentiator in the hospitality sector is our dedicated staff who sis among international also taking the service very personal. Our guests value this highly and it is not only s statement which is made without showing in the industry feedback channels. Young, international, service minded and personal. They are also educated in minimizing waste as recycling practices.
Our chosen partners and certificates in the industry are Green Key, Sustainable travel Finland, Hotels for Trees and the Glasgow Declaration.
We have been shortlisted in the “Best Accommodation” category in the Finnish Travel Gaala next month.
