Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN)
The Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN)’s mission is to setup and execute a robust tourism business plan in Nigeria, based on the principles of sustainable tourism development. They encourage sustainable tourism and the implementation of certain SDGs among tourism practitioners.
They partner with the government and train tourism stakeholders/associations on the need for climate change mitigation and conservation of natural resources. They also ensured the cleaning of waterways and the protection of aquatic habitats.

Supporting organisations
Global Tourism Plastics Initiative
In the framework of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative, FTAN commits to:
- Holding a national conference in May/June and inviting member associations to educate on the need to mitigate plastic pollution and encourage sustainable eco-tourism;
- Carrying out awareness campaigns in the major cities, riverine areas, national parks and gardens, worship centres, and schools across Nigeria;
- Encouraging the reuse, refuse, recycling and reduction of plastic materials in the country.
- Engaging media houses (radio and television) and mounting of billboards at strategic locations across the country to sensitize citizens and tourists;
- Providing trainings and technical advice to partner organisations;
- Communicating successes to its network through newsletters, distribution of fliers at airports, seaports, hotels, social media handles, conferences as well as media houses.
- Reporting publicly and annually on progress made towards these targets via own reporting mechanisms.
