GLOBAL ROUNDTABLES: TOWARDS LOW CARBON AND CLIMATE RESILIENT TOURISM

WATCH THE RECORDINGS HERE.
On the occasion of the UN Global Tourism Resilience Day, the One Planet Global Roundtable will explore how tourism can advance low carbon and climate resilient development, building on the recent multilateral progress and the outcomes of COP30 in Belém, Brazil.

The Global Roundtable is organized by UN Tourism, with support of UN Environment Programme.
Objectives:
  • Consolidate multilateral progress: Reflect on how outcomes from COP29 and COP30 are shaping climate action in tourism, with a focus on translating political momentum into implementation towards COP31.
  • Advance integrated delivery: Exchange experiences across One Planet initiatives and beyond, highlighting policies, tools and solutions which are being operationalised at destination and business level.

Over the past years, tourism has gained increased recognition within the global climate agenda. At COP29 in Baku (Azerbaijan), governments adopted the Declaration on Enhanced Climate Action in Tourism, reinforcing political commitment and identifying implementation pathways. This momentum was further advanced at COP30, where attention shifted towards delivery and the scaling of integrated solutions.
The One Planet Global Roundtable will examine how tourism can operationalise low carbon and climate resilient development, by jointly addressing mitigation, adaptation and circular economy approaches, including regenerative practices, through policy frameworks and action at destination and industry levels.
Bringing together leaders from policy, academia and the private sector, the roundtable will provide a platform for knowledge exchange and peer learning, highlighting progress and lessons to accelerate the implementation and scaling of solutions for a low carbon and climate resilient tourism future.
